Mets Baseball

Thursday we went to Port St. Lucie to see our boys play. It was so good to watch some baseball. They were playing the Baltimore. We were in luck, because they played all the regulars. We saw El Duque pitch. He was great in the first inning, and went downhill from there. We lost 8-7, but we enjoyed it all the same.
Let me tell you. It took about 2hr and 15 min to get there. If you don't like looking at orange groves and sod farms and cattle ranches, don't take route 70 across Florida. BORING!! Before we got back on the road we stopped at Clock's. It's a resturant chain here in central Florida, and the food was good and there was plenty of it. We had some shortcake left, so we didn't have dessert. Then we got back on the road home. BORING!
Yesterday we went to Fort Meyers. There is a Camping World store there, and we needed a back flushing valve thing for Emily. That was about 50 miles away. Everything is 50 miles away. But we like the idea of no congestion, and peace and quiet. Anyway, the valve thing worked and we are happy about that. Everything is back to normal.
Today I made some little oatmeal muffins. I only have a mini muffin baking pan with me. It took a refill to make all the batter, but they are really good. I did some cleaning this morning thinking it was going to be a cloudy, rainy day. It got really warm and the sun came out. Enough of the cleaning. We put down the awning to keep Emily cooler inside. I think now that I have checked the e-mail and updated the blog, I'll go out and laze outside for awhile, and listen to the birds sing. After supper we will go for a bike ride, and call it a day. Watch some March Madness and hit the hay. That's what I call a really hard day.

What wonderful weather! The past couple of nights have been rather cool. Yesterday morning it was 30 outside on our window thermometer. Today was about 10 degrees warmer. Now at 11:00 it is 75. Once the sun comes out it warms up quickly. Monday was cleaning day. Tom did the outside, and Emily was grateful. I did the inside, and now I feel better about having things where they belong.
Tom went online and got some Mets tickets for Thursday. So tomorrow we head out for Port St. Lucie. It's about a 2 hour drive, so it will be a day-long event. The game starts a little after one. We like to drive by where Mom and Dad used to live. It's near the stadium. The area has built up so much since they left here. It has become very congested and the trafffic is terrible.
We have directions to a couple of big flea markets, and a county fair, so they are also on our to do list. We would also like to go to the Gulf and walk the shore for awhile. We really love the ocean, but that's on the other side of Florida. There is a farmers market at the campground every Thursday. If we have time before we leave for the game we will stop and see what they have to offer. I already have squeezed a bag of oranges. Nothing I like better than fresh squeezed orange juice. I have a bag of grapefruit I need to finish before I buy any more. We bought some wonderful strawberries the other day. Then, of course, we had to buy ice cream, whipped cream, and I made biscuits. Shortcake. YUMMY!!!!! We have just enough for one more night of it. Then we get to finish the ice cream. Can life get any better? I think not.

Arcadia Florida

Well, we finally got here. We spent 4 days in a great Escapees park in Bushnell Florida. If we had not made reservations for other places, and they had not been paid for, we would have stayed there longer. The folks there were wonderful. They had put us in a spot next to some folks from Pa. They were so friendly and nice. They had Arts and Crafts time, and what were they doing, but swedish weaving. Any of you who know me, know that it is what I love to do. I have three of my blankets with me, and they all had to see them. I was thrilled. We will definately go back there someday.
Then we were off to Lazy Days. For those of you who do not know, it is a huge RV dealership outside of Tampa. They have a Cracker Barrel, a Flying J sevice area, and a Camping World store. They have so many RVs there. They sell about 40 a day. They have this great area where folks can move from their old unit to their new unit, and off they go. It was amazing. Tom and I took a RV driving course. We even received a certificate. We were there 2 days.
Now we are in Craig's RV Park in Arcadia. We don't know anyone yet, we have only been here 2 days, and today we spent most of the day in the laundry. The weather is great. It has been in the 80's for a few days. Tonight it is getting cold. We have closed up and come inside to stay warm. Cold Front. The weather report said this will last only 2 days. We have had our bikes out numerous times. They work fine. Everything is flat here, so we just go and go.
We got this internet hook-up, but are having trouble keeping it connected at times. Tom is thinking of getting a card when we go on our big adventure. It is only for a month. At night it seems the best. We can deal with it. That's what nice about this kind of life. If you don't like it where you are you can take your home and move. It's wonderful.

Georgia

Well, we made it to Georgia. We are in Darien at Inland Harbor Campground. We are spending 2 nights here, and visiting some of the sights. It's close to the ocean here, and we thought we should go see the bay. We finally got the bikes out of the motorhome. It was really rainy on the ride yesterday. Poor Emily really needs a wash. We are beginning to see motorcycles going to bike week. We won't be going through Daytona, so we will miss all of that confusion.
We also have seen lots of RVs going north. I feel bad for them. The weather reports aren't so good for them. Next to us is a couple from Conn. They started the same day as we did. They are glad to be out of the area, also.
The sun is shining and the temp is going up in the 70's, so I guess I'll get going and start our days adventure.

Goodbye snow

Well, I guess you have all guessed we have left for our adventure to Florida. We took off from home at 11:00 yesterday(Sunday) morning. We encountered some snow squalls in the higher elevations in Pa. and Virginia. But, on the whole, route 81 was dry and in good shape. Better than we thought. We stayed last night in Fredericksburg, Va. It was getting dark, and we don't like to travel much after dark. The campground we stayed at was a sheet of ice. They had had some snow, and ice on top of it. The fields along the interstate where like mirrors. The glare was terrible. We could not dewinterize as it was still so cold.
Today we left and headed out to meet some new friends from the Escapees class of 2007. Linda and Ron were very nice. We have made some new friends. We met for lunch and talked till about 4:00. If we have time on the way home, we will probably get together again. We took off and went on south till we saw a camping sign. It was right off 95. It's just a little place behind a motel. It's all we need. Tom and I decided not to dewinterize again because it is still cold. Tommorrow we will get off the road early and do what we have to do to get all set up. It keeps getting warmer, but not warm enough. At least there is no snow here.

SNOW

Winter is here!!! We have been getting precipitation in one form or another since 3:30 yesterday afternoon. Tom is out right now snowblowing for the second time. Everything is shut down or closed here. We live on a fairly busy street, and there are NO cars out. Now it's supposed to get colder. This is why we like to go south. By the time we come back, it should be spring.
Yesterday, before this all started, we turned Emily around so that we could pull out of the driveway easier. The Tracker is sitting in it's right position, but has not got the tow bar on yet. Hopefully this weather will clear for us to get out on Friday morning. It may be windy for us, but hopefully no snow. We'll be happy to get out of the higher elevations. I can't wait for warm weather. If we have to wait a day or so, we will. Better to be safe than sorry.

One week to go

At last we have only one week to go. It has been so cold here that the schools have had delays most of the week. Our son and his wife, and our daughter are all teachers, and enjoyed the extra sleep. They still had to go out in the cold. I know it's not as bad here as in upstate New York, where I have lots of family. Some of them are buried in the snow.
I wish it would get a little warmer, so we could go out and get Emily a little more set. As it is, we will probably have to wait until the morning we leave to take out most of the rest of our gear. We got bikes for ourselves for Christmas, and a bike rack for the Tracker. I think the bikes will be going in the back of the Tracker instead of freezing our butts off trying to get them on the rack for the trip.
The plan as of now is to meet up with some folks in Virginia the first night out. We are in no hurry because of leaving a few days earlier than originally planned. We have 2 nights reserved for Lazy Dayz near Tampa. Then the whole month of March at Craig's RV Park in Arcadia Florida.
The main reason, besides getting out of the cold, for going to Florida is to catch some spring training baseball games. We are avid METS fans. We will be a couple of hours from Port St. Lucie where they train, but plan to go a couple of times. There is a great farmers market in Fort Pierce that we love to go to. It has a stand that sells the best fresh baked bread you will ever taste. All kinds. Tom especially likes the rye. I go for the wheat. All of it is just terrific. My mouth is watering. The market is held on Saturday morning and the bread sells out quickly. We will have to get up early for that. Can't complain. It seems that we get up early in Florida. We don't want to miss all the sunshine. It seems like you miss something if you linger in bed.
